Completing Your Smile

Full mouth reconstruction is a comprehensive dental treatment that extensively restores the function and appearance of teeth and gums. The goal is to address multiple dental issues that may be affecting your overall oral health, comfort, and smile aesthetics. This process is tailored specifically to meet your individual needs to ensure we provide a solution that improves your ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence.

Who Requires a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

  • Victims of Trauma: Individuals who have experienced facial injuries from accidents or sports can extensively damage their teeth. Full mouth reconstruction helps restore both function and aesthetics.
  • Severe Wear and Tear: Over the years, habits like teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism) can wear down your teeth. People with acid reflux, certain eating disorders, or those who consume a lot of acidic beverages often also notice similar effects. These conditions often necessitate a full mouth restoration to rebuild the teeth to their optimal form.
  • Extensive Decay or Cavities: Patients who have had long periods without dental care might develop widespread decay or multiple cavities. This level of decay can compromise the structural integrity of your teeth, making full mouth reconstruction necessary to save them and maintain oral health.
  • Advanced Periodontal Disease: Gum disease can cause your gum tissue and the underlying bone structure to deteriorate. Patients with advanced periodontal disease often need extensive treatment, which includes deep cleaning and antibiotic treatments to restore healthy gums.
  • Congenital Conditions: Patients born with conditions that affect the development of the teeth and jaws can benefit from reconstruction.

Your Reconstruction Timeline

First, you will visit Monroe Dental Group for your initial consultation with Dr. Klein. He will take the time to get to know you and understand your concerns and medical history. Then we will get you comfortable in the chair for a thorough examination and some digital impressions so we can inspect what's going on in your mouth. From here, Dr. Klein can work with you to tailor a step-by-step treatment plan to address your concerns.

This process is not a quick fix - it is one that will probably require multiple procedures depending on how extensive the damage is. However, we will be open about the potential procedures in your initial appointment, and we will try our best to provide you with an accurate timeline. We want you to feel comfortable and confident about your treatment plan, so we welcome questions you may have.

Once you have agreed to the treatment plan, our treatment coordinator will discuss payments and work with you to apply for finance or create a payment plan. Most treatments are spaced a couple of weeks apart, so you won't need to pay for the full process upfront and will have a little 'breather' to budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any risks?

As with any medical or dental procedure, there are some risks. These can include:

  • infection
  • sensitivity
  • pain
  • restoration failure

However, working with an experienced dentist in Monroe, NJ, like Dr. Klein, greatly minimizes these risks. It is important to let us know about any existing health conditions to understand how they might impact or alter the risks and outcomes of your treatment plan.

Can anybody get a full mouth rehabilitation?

We only perform full mouth reconstructions on adult patients whose jaws have stopped growing. This usually means patients are at least in their late teens.

How long will my treatment plan take?

No two patients follow the same journey here at Monroe Dental Group! How long your treatment plan takes to complete depends on what issues we are treating, how well you respond to treatment and potential setbacks. If everything runs smoothly, most patients complete their treatment in a couple of weeks, while severe cases can take up to a year.

Is full mouth reconstruction the same as full mouth rehabilitation?

Yes, full mouth reconstruction and full mouth rehabilitation are used interchangeably to describe the same comprehensive process of restoring all the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. Both terms involve a variety of treatments designed to correct extensive dental issues. The choice of term may vary between dental practices, but the underlying objectives and methods are the same.
